FIRE OPERATIONS

The Vandalia Fire Division has 4 fire engines, a ladder truck, and a grass truck ready and waiting to deal with any fire call.  With 61 certified firefighters, full time, part time and paid on call, the Vandalia Fire Division staffs two fire stations on the east and west side of Vandalia.

Each year the Vandalia Fire Division has been fortunate to be provided with buildings that are no longer habitable such as the one shown below to be used for fire training purposes.  The different scenarios that can be provided during these trainings is invaluable for when the real fire presents itself.  Additionally, firefighters are offered 24 trainings with the division on specified training topics annually.

Each year, the staff checks and  flows  hydrants  located   throughout  the city.   If  a  problem  is  found,  the appropriate city department is notified and the hydrant is repaired to normal operational status.

The Fire Prevention Bureau conducts Fire Safety inspections and Building Plan Reviews, and provides Code Enforcement and Pre-Fire Planning.  In addition, they monitor open burns by requiring a permit and an inspection.  Residents are required to call the dispatch telephone number on  the permit before burning.  Visit our Fire Prevention Services page for more information.

The Fire Prevention Bureau staff teaches a multitude of Fire Safety classes.  Visit our Other Fire Services page for more information.
