EMS OPERATIONS

The Vandalia Fire Division houses 4 medics that are normally staffed to address any emergency medical service.  The fire division also has a gator that can be used for transportation should it be needed on the bike path or in wooded areas that cannot be accessed by a medic.  When crews arrive on the scene of a traumatic situation they utilize CareFlight when necessary.

The EMS section is comprised of 34 EMTs, 3 EMT-Is and 28 Paramedics.  Several EMTs are currently enrolled in the Paramedic program.

To become a Paramedic, a student must pass 5 quarters at a certified facility, take a national registry test, and apply to the State of Ohio for their certification card.  EMTs and Paramedics are offered 24 trainings within the division on sprecified training topics annually, and they must take a standing orders test each year to retain their status as an EMT or Paramedic.

Staff members also provide training to individual groups and local businesses for CPR, AED, and First Aid.
