Salt Shortage Statement

As a result of the regional salt shortage, the Vandalia Public Works Department continues to conserve salt in a number of ways, by mixing the salt with grit, focusing on primary and secondary streets, and waiting until snowfall stops before sending crews out.

During extreme conditions, our Public Works team adjusts salting routes as needed.

We are also looking into additional salt supplies.

It should be noted that our conservation policies are in no way tied to cost savings. We have budgeted to buy as much salt as we need to get through the winter… it is simply not available for purchase.

We continue to ask your patience and caution as you travel around our City.
